How to think like Nikola Tesla

How you can learn from one of the greatest minds that lived on earth

Why Tesla and how cool was he?

He is among the most awesome crazy geniuses of all time. If you think of a cool invention, he probably contributed to making it possible: safe and affordable electricity delivered to your home (Alternative currents), the light bulb, the radar and so on. Tesla has around 300 patents. He also spoke 8 languages.

Quick Question: How many of us spend their lives doing bizarre and eccentric stuff… enjoying the feeling of doing the things they want spreading their reiatsu (reiatsu: aura of awesome) at each second of their existence?
Well, very few. Tesla, it seems, was one of them.
So let us move on to what you can actually learn from this guy.

Take time to think, really..

Visualize in your brain before you start trying to solve the problem. Nikola Tesla used to work things in his head and compile complex schemes and machines with his own imagination. This process, also known as visual thinking, gets your brain to clarify the darkest details of a problem. You should never just rush and start calculating. Concentrating on the result will not get you to solve a problem (neither will thinking about other projects that follow). You can’t solve a problem until you have an in-depth understanding of what it is about. I’ve seen a lot of people in DIY projects trying to achieve the end product while not understanding what’s happening in the process and, most of the time, it just doesn’t get them anywhere.

Relax and work it out in your head. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying:

“If I had only one hour to save the world, I would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem, and only five minutes finding the solution.”

Go for a walk

Leave your workspace for a while and go for a walk. You’re more likely to come up with a solution. Getting farther from your limitations will help you think outside of the box.
It is well known that Nikola Tesla was a big go-for-a-walk-o-phile ( a person that loves going for a walk, and yes I just made that up) and he came up with most of his inventions while taking a walk.

Be alone, that is the secret of invention” Nikola Tesla

PS: This is not a call for joining the ‘Forever alone’ league. Being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.

Being alone from time to time helps you recharge your battery and sharpen your personality.

“The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude. No big laboratory is needed in which to think. Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us to cripple the creative mind. Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born. That is why many of the earthly miracles have had their genesis in humble surroundings.” Nikola Tesla
